Uncommon Sense is the debut album of pianist and composer Axel Schwintzer’s project Axel’s Axiom. Uncommon Sense features ten compositions by the German born- New York based Schwintzer that stylistically range from Samba influenced grooves to Funk and Pop oriented tunes, to swinging jazzy themes and ballads. The styles cross over into one another, creating a varied blend that stays interesting without becoming incoherent and jumbled. As per the composer’s credo, the music has the potential to appeal to casual listeners and music aficionados alike.
The band is comprised of versatile players: the cooking rhythm section of drummer Marko Djordjevic (Wayne Krantz, Bill Frisell, Lionel Loueke, Aaron Goldberg) and bassist Evan Gregor (Dave Liebman, Phil Woods, Christian Scott). It is complemented by Casper Gyldensoe on guitar and Axel Schwintzer on piano and some keyboard and synthesizer. Saxophonists Aki Nishiguchi on tenor and Alex Terrier on alto deliver numerous burning solos. Every single band member hails from different corners of the world – Serbia, USA, Japan, France, Denmark, and Germany are all represented, perfectly reflecting the diversity of music.
