CHARLES MINGUS: A JAZZ ICON OF CONTEMPORARY IMPACT

Online

The legendary bassist, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus was a fiercely independent, proudly African American force in music, a model for many generations of musicians, especially today. One way of appreciating his approach to jazz is to understand his particular way of balancing the two primary creative endeavors in jazz: composing and improvising. We are joined by Alex Terrier, alto saxophonist and member of the Mingus Big Band, to discuss Mingus through three powerful compositions. We will share videos and audio clips, hear from Terrier plus Abraham Burton and Andy McKee, two other MBB members who teach at JAZZ HOUSE KiDS. This event is partnered by JazzUp! Vienne, the educational program for young players that is part of the annual French summer festival Jazz à Vienne, where both Kahn and Terrier teach.

JAZZ HOUSE KiDS invites you to a special guest series of Jazz Masters: [INSiDE] THE JAZZ NOTE. [INSiDE] THE JAZZ NOTE provides students the unique opportunity to learn from some of the world’s preeminent Jazz artists. Open to all ages and levels, each class has a thematic focus, while incorporating live interaction with students.
